Knife is made of combination of carbon steel and stainless steel. It's call high carbon stainless steel blades. High carbon stainless steel blades do not discolor or stain, and maintain a sharp edge for a reasonable time. Most 'high-carbon' stainless blades are made of higher-quality alloys than less-expensive stainless knives. By : Peter And Travis 4E1
The ruler above is a stainless steel ruler. Stainless steel is an alloy of iron, chromium, nickel and a little carbon. It does not rust and is, therefore, used extensively for making cutlery and surgical instruments. It is even used in chemical plants because it is extremely durable and is resistant to corrosion even when heated. So, the ruler above which is made out of stainless steel is durable, resistant to corrosion and does not rust.

Rust is the result of the reaction of iron with water and oxygen. And because gold is highly unreactive and the most inert, non-reactive of all metals; it does undergo chemical reactions easily, hence it does not combine easily with oxygen. Therefore gold does not rust...

When oxidation takes place, rusting occurs. Stainless steel is made up of iron, chromium, nickel and a little bit of carbon. Chromium forms a protective layer called Chromium Oxide which therefore prevents rusting in taps made out of stainless steel.

Stainless steel is rust resistant because when it reacts with oxygen it forms an oxide layer that protects the underlying metal.Chromium plays a dominant role in reacting with oxygen to form this corrosion product film. Chromium oxide prevents further rusting or oxidation and it forms a tough adherent layer which does not flake off like rust.

This is a razor that has blades made out of stainless steel. Stainless steel is used to make steel resistant to corrosion, that is rusting in the case of iron and steel. Stainless steel is a steel alloy that is comprised of steel and at least 11% or 10.5% of chromium by mass. They are resistant to rusting as a layer of chromium oxide is formed when chromium gets corroded, and this passive film of chromium oxide prevents anymore of the steel content from rusting, protecting both the surface of the alloy as well as its internal structure.
